Happiness is...

Top 5 Things I LOVED This Wk:
1. The Brady Bunch. Seriously.
2. Walking along the beach, my head full of thoughts. Looked down and saw a heart shaped stone. I stopped to pick it up and decided it was a sign.
3. Reading a book in a cool bath on a 37 degree day.
4. When you start cleaning one part of the house and then you’re on a roll and all of a sudden you’ve done two loads of washing, washed the dishes, weeded the garden, vacuumed the floors and cleaned the bathroom. Doesn’t happen often so I thought it was worth mentioning!
5. Learning new Japanese words for my trip every time I go to buy sushi from the new onigiri bar in town.

Mid-January already… Write down your goals or theme/word for 2013 and stick it on your mirror so you are reminded of it every day!

                                                                  Don't you agree?

Top 5 Things I LOVED This Wk:
1. Pedestrians who wave to say “thank you” went walking over the zebra crossing.
2. Doing yoga in the car park at the beach on our towels while we waited for the sun to come up.
3. The mango and coconut cake I baked on Fri night. Almond meal and polenta instead of flour. The boys ate it with a cheeky scoop of homemade banana chai ice cream!
4. Dresses with pockets.
5. The week before your holiday when you are nearly bubbling over with excitement. This time next week we’ll be in JAPAN!!

Plan something to get excited about! Even if it’s just getting your hair done or a day trip somewhere an hour away!

Pleasure beyond measure.

“This toothpaste is so good it nearly makes me orgasm every time I brush my teeth!” exclaimed my customer last Friday. Followed by a “God, this is what my life has come to....” I reassured her that it’s a fantastic thing to find happiness in all the simple things in life, especially when you are a sleep deprived mother of a newborn, a toddler in his terrible two’s and have just returned to work.

Another customer that day told me that the Ayurvedic soap he uses makes him feel like he’s levitating as soon as he gets in the shower.

Incorporate little bursts of happiness into your day to bring you joy. Here are some of my little daily rituals that make my heart feel lighter xx

Opening the bedroom blinds when I wake up and feeling the first rays of sunshine on my face.

Feeling the chilled terracotta tiles under my bare feet as I rush out to my courtyard to check on the garden’s progress.

Extra sprinklings of cinnamon in my morning chai.

Pouring the chai out of my favourite white and navy anchor teapot.

Listening to Fat Freddys Drop on repeat for the whole day at work.

The glow of vanilla scented candles in empty jam jars while I have my bath.

The intoxicating smell of home grown basil in the food processor while making homemade pesto.

A goodnight phone call from my husband.

You don’t need to spend endless amounts of money on new things, because the best things in life are free. All the happiness that you need in your life is already right there inside of you. xx

PS. Just incase you were wondering, the “orgasmic” toothpaste is MiEssence organic mint toothpaste ;)

Live the life you love and love the life you live.

Last Friday night I had the pleasure of having dinner with a beautiful friend of mine I’ve known for ten years now. She wrote me a very sweet email today with the last line saying “You’re living the dream I reckon”. With a little smiley face :)

Time to get philosophical: I truly believe that every decision we have ever made in our lives has led us to exactly where we are standing right now. So if you’re not happy with your job, your relationship, your financial status or the type of person you are to others, accept responsibility for your actions and start making changes.

You're never too old to change careers. I've spent hundreds of hours serving rosewater lassi's and kofta balls at a Hari Krishna restaurant, made countless cups of (really bad) flat whites, gotten up at 4:30am to do the breakfast shift at the Sheraton and sat in front of a computer with a headset on at JetSet Travel before I finally became a naturopath.

Now I’m far from being a wise old sage with decades of life experience in front of me. However, from my understanding of life, the trick to create your ideal life is to make decisions from the heart and everything else just seems to fall into place.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
