Twenty-twelve.

Last year I made an agreement with myself that I would have a life outside of the business. So I fell deeply in love with pilates, joined a new yoga class, took more road trips North and met some awesome new friends.

As a result, my life is now richer than before.

I’m a huge believer that every decision we have ever made has lead us to exactly where we are in our life at this very point. The strength of our relationships, our job, our health, how much money we make, the person we’ve become, but most of all: how happy we are.

So this year (2012) I endeavour to:
*get married to my other half and travel to Fiji
*run 10 km
*have more dinner parties
*buy a 12ft board with my man so we can surf tandem and stand-up paddle board
*be true to myself by letting go of old ways of thinking that don’t serve my life in a positive way

Oh and get lots more reflexology treatments!

Happy New Year everyone xx

High five.

Don’t just celebrate all the major things in life such as graduations, weddings and job promotions. Celebrate ALL of your (and your loved ones) achievements no matter how insignificant they may seem! This includes handing in assignments when you’re in your first year of uni, 3 month anniversaries in a new relationship or losing 2 kilos when you’re on your way to 10.

Celebrating even the tiniest success you experience is a positive reminder that you’re one stepping stone closer to your goals.

Looking at a sizeable goal such as finishing a uni degree or losing a large amount of weight can be really overwhelming and feel far from your grasp in the beginning. So breaking it down into little bite-size chunks makes it so much more achievable and motivating.

Last Tuesday night at my yoga class I did my first unattended headstand! Metaphysically it can be quite a challenge to have your heart above your head… So to celebrate I rewarded myself yesterday with a massage :)

No more excuses.

Essential Health's number one pet hate... People who don't make New Years Resolutions!! Or those random fluffy ones like "Be healthier" or "Get fit", but don't make any improvements or changes to make them happen.

Resolutions need to be specific and realistic. Instead of “I will exercise more” how about, “I will go to a Body Balance class at the gym on Tuesday and Thursday nights”.

The things we want in life don’t just knock on our door or fall into our lap, so think about the steps you need to put into place and certain people who can help you to make your goals happen. Ask friends if they can recommend a good personal trainer or naturopath, find the timetable for your local yoga studio, browse book shops for healthy cook books, get a new pair of joggers or sexy Lorna Jane tights and schedule workouts into your diary (in pen, not pencil) like you would a hair appointment.

Telling a friend and writing your health goals down somewhere you can see them on a daily basis like on the fridge or the inside of your diary helps to cement them.

Having said that, here are my New Years Resolutions for 2011:

*Start tennis lessons to make use of the tennis racket Santa gave me for Xmas

*Climb Mount Warning

*De-stress by getting a massage once a month

*No more eating on the run

What are yours?
